What these applications do

Shelter Heating Risk Calculator (Windows, Linux) assesses the risk of heating a shelter — a wall tent, tipi, cabin, bunkhouse or pavilion. You describe the shelter and the appliance heating it; it scores the risks that apply, shows which controls your description already puts in place, lets you select the rest, reports the risk that remains, and produces a Word document you can file. It is a professional tool for camp and site managers, health and safety advisors, and anyone signing off on a heated structure that is not a house.

Shelter Capture (Android) records a shelter on a phone or tablet, where it stands, and writes what you record to a single file. It does not score anything and holds no risk data; the file is imported into the desktop application, which is where the assessment is made.

Which versions are available on which platform, and where to download them, is on the product page above. That is deliberately not repeated here: a privacy policy should stay true as versions come and go, and a version number written into it is a fact that goes stale without anybody noticing.

The short version

Neither application collects, transmits or shares any information. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no telemetry. Neither makes network connections of any kind. Everything you enter stays on your own device, in a file you control.

The three sections that follow describe the desktop application for Windows and Linux. Shelter Capture for Android has a section of its own below, because it works differently: it has no database, and it is the one that offers to share a file.

What the desktop application stores

Everything you record is written to a database file on your own machine: 

• shelter profiles, including any address or coordinates you enter

• assessments, the controls you selected and any notes you wrote

• properties and their details

• your rating scales and any changes you make to the risk data

The file lives under your own user account, in the folder your operating
system sets aside for application data:

• Windows: %APPDATA%\shelter-heating-risk-calculator, which is C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\shelter-heating-risk-calculator

• Linux: ~/.config/shelter-heating-risk-calculator, or under $XDG_CONFIG_HOME if you have set one

You can copy it, back it up, move it to another machine or delete it at any time. The application provides a command to save a copy wherever you choose.

Assessment records may contain the address and coordinates of a property, and any notes you write about it. That information is yours. It is never sent anywhere by this application.

What the desktop application does not do

• It does not connect to the internet. There is no licensing check, no update check and no usage reporting. 

• It does not collect personal information about you.

• It does not use cookies, advertising identifiers or analytics.

• It does not share anything with the publisher or with any third party.

• It does not require an account or a sign-in.

When information leaves your machine (desktop)

Only when you choose to move it, using a feature you invoke deliberately:

• Saving or exporting a file. You pick the location. The file goes where you put it.

• Exporting an assessment for another assessor. This writes a file you then send by whatever means you choose. The application does not send it.

• Exporting a Word report. Same: a file, where you put it.

• The review export. The application can write a file describing an assessment so that you may take it to an AI assistant of your own choosing. The application does not contact any assistant, holds no API key, and does not transmit the file. Anything you then do with that file is between you and whatever service you take it to, under that service's own privacy terms.

Shelter Capture for Android

Shelter Capture records a shelter on a phone or tablet so that it can be described where it stands, and writes what you record to a single file. It does not score anything, holds no risk data and has no database. The file is imported into the desktop application, which is where an assessment is made.

It has no permission to use the network. This is worth stating plainly, because it is a stronger guarantee than software can usually offer. Android grants network access as a permission, and this application does not request it. The result is not a promise about our intentions: the operating system will not allow the application to open a network connection, whatever its code might ask for. It cannot check for updates, report usage or send your work anywhere, because it has no means to do so.

It requests no permissions at all.

What it stores. One file per capture, written to your device's Documents folder, containing what you recorded about the shelter: its name, type, construction, levels and rooms, and the address or coordinates if you entered them. Nothing else is stored. Delete the file and nothing remains.

Sending the file is your decision, and it is a real one. After writing the file, the application offers your device's standard sharing options — email, a cloud drive, a cable, a messaging app, whatever you have installed. The application does not send anything itself; it hands the file to whichever app you choose, and that app does the sending.

If you choose a service such as email or a cloud drive, your shelter information goes to that service, and is then held under that provider's terms rather than ours. That is not a side effect of using Shelter Capture; it is the choice you make at the sharing screen, and you can decline it. The file is already saved on your device before the sharing options appear, so dismissing them loses nothing.

Nothing is collected by us. We receive nothing, see nothing, and have no way to. There is no account, no registration and no identifier of any kind. 

Google Play. The listing declares that this application collects no data and shares no data, which is what the absent network permission enforces.
Google Play itself may collect information about installations under its own privacy policy, as it does for every application distributed through it; that is between you and Google and is outside our control.

Children

Both applications are professional tools and are not directed at children. They collect no information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of either application changes what it does with data, this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the effective date above will change.
